My Rating: 3 stars

This was an interesting and unique fantasy novel that was different from any I have read so far! The plot drew me in right away and it was fast-paced with many different layers throughout. The warnings and the reactions of the other characters about Watanabe were really well done because it created a sense of mystery and suspense to add to the action. The action scenes did get repetitive at times and they all seemed to get smushed together a lot, but there were emotional scenes to balance it out so it was okay. All of this plot and action was set in a detailed world with different types of magic and a government system to rule over it.

Kara went through a lot of character growth as she trained in her magic and Selene did too, as she showed kindness despite her cold exterior at the start. I liked how even after Selene showed she could be kind, she still managed to surprise me with her thoughtfulness. Side-character-wise, I liked Kara's dialogue with her brother John and her friendship with Dani.

Overall, this was a fun action-filled read that I enjoyed reading!
