There's been a month's break between today's posts and the last one, so I guess that's kind of like an unofficial haitus when I just went on an official haitus! I feel really bad about not posting consistently, but school has been crazy busy lately and I barely get the type to read which kind of makes reviewing not an option. It's been even more hectic because of these writing competition submissions I've been working on for months, and recently submitted.
I have been posting some mini reviews on Goodreads and updating on there, so I thought I'd transfer some to a post.
The Catcher in the Rye
2.5 stars
I’m conflicted on this but I’m pretty sure my rating is a 2.5. I read this for school and had to take handwritten notes(which I ended up procrastinating on) so as you can imagine, it wasn’t very enjoyable.
The book itself felt very slow and Holden annoyed me a lot, but I guess he could be nice once in a while...
The ending was somewhat nice, so I guess that kind of made up for the rest of this book? I also felt the Catcher in the Rye metaphor was odd but kind of interesting so points for that??
I’m not completely sure how I feel about it but I’m kind of in the middle and maybe leaning towards the not liking it side.

Thoughts outside of review, just for this post: So this review barely even counts as a review now that I'm rereading it, but that was all the thoughts I could form at the moment, and since this as a school book I didn't really enjoy, I honestly don't want to spend more time on it than I have to so I'm guess I'm leaving it like this! 😂

The art in this and emotions were so beautifully done. The feeling of ice rink, waking up early, and all the little moments were so well done that it was like really being there. I loved the message in this too, but it felt very disconnected at time. It was a bit like a bunch of memories and emotions that didn't feel entirely connected. I also didn't feel too satisfied with the resolution because it was so open-ended and unfinished, but maybe the was intentional. This book deals with many issues and I felt maybe it would have been better if it went deeper into some of them. For example, there could have been maybe more of a reaction from the parents when she came out, or her school experiences could have been more explored. Overall though this was a beautiful and meaningful graphic novel about figure skating and growing up.
