When Dimple Met Rishi

Summary: Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family—and from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right?

Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself.

The Shahs and Patels didn’t mean to start turning the wheels on this “suggested arrangement” so early in their children’s lives, but when they noticed them both gravitating toward the same summer program, they figured, Why not?

Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works hard to prove itself in the most unexpected ways.

My Rating: 3.5 stars

The Idea

I think the idea of the novel was really great and it caught my attention from the start. And the plot did not disappoint me. It was everything I hoped, fun and light, and fluffy while also being centered around important issues.

Characters

Ok, so dimple was ummm....very violent, and literally from the moment she met him she’s been throwing stuff at him, punching him in the ribs, and injuring him in a wide array of other ways. But for some reason, I didn’t hate her that much. It could be because of how she had a goal to release an app to help people and she worked towards that goal. Still though, It was really annoying how just because "she was no delicate flower" and she was a strong independent woman, she thought it was totally okay for her to be abusive towards Rishi, as if that's even a reasonable excuse. So yeah, I didn't really like Dimple that much, but I didn't completely hate her either.

Rishi on the other hand was definitely my favorite character.

He was just so sweet and goofy and trying so hard because he cares about dimple. He seems like the opposite of Dimple in a way because he seems to be proud of his Indian culture and even educates other people about it, while Dimple seems a lot less connected to her Indian side. His love and fear of comic book art brought more dimension to him so that his only purpose wasn’t to be Dimple’s love interest.

Writing

It was mostly really cute and I totally want to go into depth about every tiny cute scene, but that would be spoiling the entire book so I guess I can't.

But some scenes were cringey too. Like at one point she was looking at his shoes and thinking about how his feet were probably bigger than hers. And then Rishi was like “Are you okay?” cause she was sooo deep in thought about his feet and she was like "Yup, I'm totally fine" and I was Like “Are you though?! Are You?!”

Lol anyways I really liked Dimple's character change by the end of the book as well as Rishi's and I thought it was the perfect way to end the book.

Something else I feel the need to mention before the end of this review is that I absolutely LOVED how they first met!!! I mean not when she threw the iced coffee at him but way back when they were kids! It was just sooo cute and sweet and perfect and I could totally Imagine a little Dimple and a little Rishi in my head.
