Summary: This heartwarming story has beckoned generations of readers into the special world of Green Gables, an old-fashioned farm outside a town called Avonlea. Anne Shirley, an eleven-year-old orphan, has arrived in this verdant corner of Prince Edward Island only to discover that the Cuthberts—elderly Matthew and his stern sister, Marilla—want to adopt a boy, not a feisty redheaded girl. But before they can send her back, Anne—who simply must have more scope for her imagination and a real home—wins them over completely. A much-loved classic that explores all the vulnerability, expectations, and dreams of a child growing up, Anne of Green Gables is also a wonderful portrait of a time, a place, a family… and, most of all, love.
My rating: 4.7(rounded up to 5)
My Thoughts: This had been on my TBR for a long time and I’m so glad I’ve finally gotten to this! This book was so full of beauty and it was amazing to see the world through Anne’s eyes. I could relate to her in so many ways, from the way she talks to her tendency to daydream to her trouble with geometry and it’s interesting how relatable she is given the fact that this was written in 1907. Diana, Gilbert, Matthew Cubhert, and Marilla were all such lovable characters as well!
I especially enjoyed the first half of the book with her getting used to Green Gables and her friendship with Diana. And I have to admit that I didn’t enjoy the second half with her grown-up self as much since it focused more on her passing the entrance exam and all the stuff that came after.
This was such a great classic novel and I’m happy to say that it’s one I’ll add to my favorites shelf!💖
